Plan a Time Frame - Depending on what time your spouse gets home from work or when your children fall asleep this will vary person to person. I am personally a big fan of putting a relaxing end to a long days work so I recommend a nightly bath. Talk to your spouse about taking over the bedtime responsibilities of the children. It can be difficult to ask your spouse for help and support, but you can't simply assume that your partner will notice when you are in distress. Sometimes, you have to ask for help. You must be willing to step aside and receive support when you are exhausted from work or family responsibilities. It's not just during the really stressful times either. Continue to seek help even when things are going well, practicing self-care on regular basis is important for your mental health and for the health of your relationships as well.
Setting the Stage - Power down all electronics and slip into that hot water! When a tense body enters the hot water it increases the body's temperature and relaxes the muscles. Relaxing the muscles not only soothes us physically, but also mentally, and many of us need that peace of mind at the end of the day. By making sure to turn off all screens it will help reset and refocus our appreciation and gratitude for the lives we have been given. Meditating on these positive thoughts before bedtime not only improves your current mood better preparing you for sleep, it also impacts how cheerful and alert you are the next day as well.
